About Jeremy

Jeremy has lived a life dedicated to service from being student body president and Rotary Student of the Year at West High to following in his parents' footsteps as an educator. A North High English teacher, Jeremy provides a first-class education for his students by creating opportunities to experience Sioux City's arts and culture as well as work with professionals in the community. An avid supporter of the arts, Jeremy has published literature and performed in local theater.

Jeremy earned an associate's degree in Intelligence Operations from Cochise College (AZ), a bachelor's degree in English from Dowling College (Long Island, NY) and a summa cum laude master's degree in English from the University of South Dakota. Jeremy's thesis, Men Like Trees, Walking, is a collection of short stories concerning postwar Vietnam and suburban America, one of which was awarded a place in the fall 2005 issue of South Dakota Review.

In keeping with his commitment to service, Jeremy enlisted in the Army National Guard in a post-9/11 world during a time of war. He is an intelligence analyst (SPC) in the Iowa National Guard.

Jeremy and his wife Kim met while he was teaching at a university in Vietnam, and as small business owners, they own The Green Tea Salon. They are the proud parents of Isabella, 6, Ishmael , 4, and Immanuel, 1.

Jeremy's parents, Gerald and Diane, are now retired as lifelong Sioux City educators who taught Special Education (West, Central Campus) and Reading Recovery (Irving) for a combined 63 years. Jeremy and Gerald work as partners in the summer painting houses for Taylor Painting. His family attends Morningside Baptist Church, and Jeremy and Kim are on the board of the Vietnamese Evangelical Church in Sioux City.

In his spare time, Jeremy enjoys running, reading good literature, and spending time with his family.
